My Professional Dancing Days

Back in 1966 when I traveled as one of the The Fendermen band’s dancers, I thought of the dancing cage as a publicity stunt and a good idea. For me, dancing in the cage gave me a focus. It was a small round space and was hard to dance in, especially swinging my arms. I could be really hurt if I swung my arms and hit my hand or arm on one of those metal bars, so I had to be very careful. I learned to dance and contain the dancing within the cage. There were colored flickering lights above and below the cage. It was in this cage that I learned to spin, and to spin fast.
