What is a Damn It Doll?

My role as Trustee at Al-Anon meant that I went to many events, like the closing banquets at conferences. Back then in the 1970s, the banquets were a huge event with everyone dressed to the nines.

Many people at this event had a lot of money and I went from being uncomfortable around so much money to feeling comfortable, welcomed, and accepted. I started to see there would always be someone better than me and someone much worse off than me.

Anyway, during the closing of the banquet, we were given love gifts. I still have a couple of them; a pin representing New Jersey and a damn-it doll used to release frustrations.

You take the damn-it doll by the legs and say damn it damn it damn it. Even after all these years, I still lend it out to people!
