Sarasota Home

Before Mom died, she, George, and I began to spend Christmas Eve with A.A. and Al-Anon friends in Sarasota, Florida. We then started going there to see all the Halloween decorations each year too. It was in 2008 that we knew we wanted to live there in the future.

After Mom died in Cape Coral 2010, George and I got a real estate agent and told them we were ready to buy a place in Sarasota. But just before the realtor started to look for us, I saw a listing for the Embassy House on Zillow. I told the realtor that I wanted to see it. We went the next morning.

This is it! I knew the minute I walked in that this was it! It was the place for us. All of the windows and that view of the bay. I could see all of our furniture, all of our memories from London and Paris, fitting in this place. Everything would work. My past and present led me to the future I wanted. I knew it was the best place to be and the place I wanted to die.

When George and I moved to Sarasota, I had a village right away. We knew people already and met new friends. Plus our building is a village with two-hundred forty people. It’s the nucleus of our life. We also share our Sarasota home with friends and family from all over, including London.

In this pic I’m holding a painting of our Sarasota building before the area was built up.
